Couples Therapy

Couples therapy can be a powerful tool for improving communication, strengthening relationships, and resolving conflicts within intimate partnerships. As a therapist, I take a collaborative and integrative approach to couples therapy, tailoring my techniques and strategies to meet each couple's unique needs and goals.
In my approach to couples therapy, I prioritize creating a safe and non-judgmental environment where both partners can feel heard and validated. Effective communication is the foundation of any healthy relationship, and I work with couples to identify and address communication patterns that may hinder their ability to connect.
One key aspect of my approach to couples therapy is helping couples to identify and understand their attachment styles. Our earliest relationships shape our attachment style, particularly with our primary caregivers. Understanding attachment styles can help couples identify underlying patterns in their relationship and develop strategies for overcoming challenges.
In addition to attachment theory, I incorporate evidence-based approaches such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) into my work with couples. CBT helps couples identify and address patterns of emotional disconnection, while TF-CBT can effectively address specific relationship challenges, such as infidelity or trust issues.
The Black family system has a rich history and culture, and I draw from this understanding in my approach to couples therapy. I also recognize the unique challenges that Black couples may face due to systemic racism and intergenerational trauma. By recognizing the cultural strengths and challenges that may impact Black couples, I am better equipped to provide a culturally responsive and effective approach to couples therapy.
My goal as a couples therapist is to provide a supportive and empowering environment where couples can learn to communicate more effectively, build stronger connections, and achieve their goals as a partnership.
